Battery Protection IC for 3 to 5 Serial Cell Pack with Self-test Function
S-8235 Series

  1. Self-test (self-diagnosis) function is set up to confirm the voltage monitoring circuit operation
  2. Cascade connection allows to monitor multiple batteries condition at the same time
  3. Automotive quality: AEC-Q100/PPAP qualified

The S-8235A Series is a lithium-ion rechargeable battery second protection IC for automotive BMS, which incorporates high-accuracy voltage detection circuits and delay circuits. This series protects rechargeable battery packs against the severe overcharge condition. In case the primary monitoring system fails, the S-8235A series enables to continue monitoring the batteries.

1. Self-test (self-diagnosis) function confirms whether the voltage monitoring circuit is operating as it is supposed to be.

This function is performed by inputting the reset signal and the clock signal externally. The self-testing function generates artificially overcharge condition in order to allow the internal circuit to activate the operation like the actual overcharge detection. Since the self-test feedback send to the pin as the detection signal, it is also possible to confirm the subsequent stages of the system operation.

2. Simultaneously monitors multiple batteries using cascade connection

By connecting the S-8235A in cascade, it is capable of connecting 6 cells in series and more. It is also possible to do the self-test on all devices of the S-8235A connected in cascade by inputting the reset signal and the clock signal to the lowest stack of the device of the S-8235A.

3. Certifications: AEC-Q100/PPAP qualified

The S-8285A uses AEC-Q100 standards defined by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) to verify the quality and reliability, and also met requirements for Production part approval (PPAP) standards. With these certifications, ABLIC Inc. offers fully reliable products for various automotive applications.

105°C Operation Voltage Monitoring IC with Cell Balancing Function
S-19190 Series

  1. Optimal for cell balancing and overcharge protection of EDLCs (Electric double-layer capacitors)!
  2. Possible to support various numbers of battery cells by protecting each cell!
  3. Automotive quality : AEC-Q100 / PPAP qualified, high temperature operation, tested at 3 temperatures (low, normal, high)

The S-19190 Series is an automotive EDLC voltage monitoring IC that is optimal for cell-balancing and overcharge protection of EDLCs.

The S-19190 Series includes the functions of cell-balancing, which controls the voltage of multiple cells to the same level, and detecting overcharge conditions. Conventional protection ICs are only able to control a fixed number of cells, whereas the S-19190 Series offers an industry first capability and flexibility to protect any number of cells the design calls for. This flexible design approach allows for optimal circuit configuration for a multitude of applications.

As the automotive industry continues to expand EV and FCV power offerings the use of EDLC has been rapidly expanding. The EDLC function allows for improved efficiency and design flexibility for high current design requirements such as engine restart during idle stop, storage of regenerative energy during braking (by converting kinetic energy during deceleration into harvested stored electrical energy), and to manage sudden or instantaneous system voltage drop. Each EDLC cell must be balanced in order to not deteriorate when connecting multiple EDLCs to generate higher voltage. The S-19190 Series can control multiple EDLCs efficiently, while still maintaining a small footprint with the SOT-23-6 package (2.8 x 2.9 x 1.3mm).

1. Optimal for cell balancing and overcharge protection of EDLCs (Electric double-layer capacitors)!

The S-19190 is a voltage monitoring IC with a cell balancing function and includes a high-accuracy voltage detection circuit and a delay circuit. The S-19190 is suitable for cell balancing and overcharge protection of EDLCs. The 105 °C high temperature operation also enables use in harsh environments where applications such as regenerative braking system are used.

2. Possible to support various numbers of battery cells by protecting each cell!

The S-19190 can protect batteries and EDLCs in 1-cell unit. By connecting S-19190 to each cell, various numbers of battery cells can be protected, achieving optimal circuit configuration for customer applications.

3. Certifications: AEC-Q100/PPAP qualified

The S-19190 Series uses AEC-Q100 standards defined by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) to verify the quality and reliability, and also met requirements for Production part approval (PPAP) standards. Customers can be fully confident that our product will deliver the high quality and reliability for your automotive applications.
