Introducing our Wake-up Timer IC ideal for intermittent system operation

Intermittent operation significantly reduces system power consumption.

Wake-up Timer IC | Interval Timer IC

A wake-up timer IC is an IC that enables intermittent system operation by periodically waking up the system.
ABLIC’s wake-up timer IC consumes little power and allows flexible time settings.
These capabilities support the development of IoT communication devices, monitoring devices, security devices and a wide variety of other battery-operated systems or energy harvesting systems that require low power consumption.

  1. Ultra-low current consumption 0.2μA typ.
  2. Flexible wake-up time settings
  3. Simple command settings (S-35710)
  4. Built-in quartz crystal (S-35710M)

1. Ultra-low current consumption 0.2μA typ.

The ultra-low current consumption of 0.2 μA is much lower than the current consumption of the built-in microcontroller timer. Using the wake-up timer IC instead of the microcontroller timer will substantially reduce system power consumption, contribute to longer battery life and enable use of more compact batteries.
Even when combined with the S-1318 LDO whose current consumption is an ultra-low 0.095 μA, current consumption would still be an ultra-low 0.295 μA.

2. Flexible wake-up time settings

  • Wake-up time can be set over a wide time period from 1 second up to 194 days.
  • Wake-up time settings can be made in 1-second increments.
  • To enable building highly flexible systems, our product lineup includes the S-35710 that, via an interface, programs software time settings and the S-35720 that provides time setting pins for hardware time selection.

3. Simple command settings (S-35710)

Three commands provide proper control of wake-up time settings.

  • Write wake-up time register (Wwtr)
A command used for setting the wake-up time. A program provides flexible settings.
  • Read wake-up time register (Rwtr)
A command used for confirming the set wake-up time.
Using this command with the Write wake-up time register makes it easy to properly set a wake-up time.
  • Read time register (Rtr)
A command used for confirming elapsed time.
Using this command with the Write wake-up time register makes it easy to properly confirm that a wake-up time has been set.
It can also be used to confirm elapsed time in sleep mode.

4. Built-in quartz crystal (S-35710M)

Thanks to the built-in quartz crystal:

  • There is no need to assess IC and quartz crystal matching.
  • The number of external components can be reduced.
  • Housed in an HSOP-8Q package of the same size as an 8-pin SOP package, the IC is compact and has fewer pins.
